The Coral Triangle

Three main theories have stood the test of time to explain the high number of species in the Coral Triangle.
1.New species are created outside the Coral Triangle and brought in on prevailing currents. Here they accumulate, adding to the overall diversity.
2.High species diversity of the Coral Triangle is a result of unique contributions of species from both the Indian and Pacific Ocean. In the Coral Triangle , they overlap and thus the number of species is higher than either of the oceans alone.
3.New species are created in the Coral Triangle and then experience on currents to other parts of the ocean. Evidence suggests changing sea levels every 100,0000 years or so have created a barrier between the Indian and Pacific Ocean helping to isolate and create new species.
